Swimming Pool Garden near Farnham, Surrey

The garden of this Victorian rectory style house needed renovating to provide larger terraces for dining and practical routes to the swimming pool. The old concrete paving slab paths looked dated and the planting was sparse. My garden design took its circular theme from the curved end of the swimming pool. It includes curved steps, moon gates, arches over paths, two water features with curved pools and a circular layout to the new formal garden. Levelling existing steep banks in the garden and constructing a series of low retaining walls enabled the laying of a flat lawn for children’s games and provided the opportunity for multi-level planting. The vistas were re-orientated towards the adjacent paddocks and fields. Increased planting and trelliswork screens have helped soften the noise of a nearby road. The range of plants includes palms around the swimming pool, Rhododendrons on the shady side of the garden, and scented Lavender along the pergola path.

Client's testimonial

My garden had remained much the same as when the house was first built in 1879. The structural elements were all crumbling. The plants were past their best and the levels were all over the place. We called in Cherry to sort out the mess with an open brief.

After carrying out the survey she produced two designs which she developed following much friendly consultation with ourselves. After finalising Cherry went out to tender and after discussion with us, settled on a contractor. The contract was then managed by Cherry which included construction of walls to re-organise the levels, importation of soil, choosing and installing trellis, a summerhouse, a pergola, water feature, and external lighting.

Her choice of plants was awe inspiring and she personally supervised the planting of each item. The lawns were replanted, the patios re-laid the barbecue built and we were able to take our first look at the finished work.

I remember that first morning looking from our bedroom window to see the most breathtaking work of art.. My new garden.

Thank you Cherry Mills for your professionalism and, design but most of all for producing a beautiful finished product with no stress to ourselves.
