Garden for Entertaining - Godalming, Surrey

My clients asked me to create a large water feature in the back garden which could be viewed from its central dining hall. Other requirements were to allocate space for parties and to screen off a large new building on neighbouring land. My garden design divides the space into three separate areas and levels - the lower courtyard for entertaining, the lawn area for relaxing and the woodland/vegetable/utility area at the bottom. Each area is separated by tall Yew hedging, which emphasises the change in style but also improves privacy. The paving is grey granite and grey slate. I designed and commissioned the glass cube fountain which flows into a shallow pool below. A double pergola, covered in Roses, Clematis and Jasmine, leads to a feature wall which displays a series of moon phase wall sculptures. The more natural area of the garden is planted up with new trees including a row of semi-mature Leylandii along the boundary for screening.
